  • Will VetGuard® for Cats take care of all my flea problems?

No, as with all flea and tick control products, VetGuard® for Cats should be used as part of a program aimed at reducing flea populations in the cat’s environment (bedding, carpets, kennel, and yard). VetGuard® for Cats will kill fleas on the cat, but not those that are in his bedding, carpets or yard, as they are only exposed to VetGuard® for Cats if they are on the cat and come in contact with the product.

It will not stop them from multiplying in the environment around the cat. We recommend that you replace or treat your cat’s bedding, and treat your carpets and yard with products that will kill fleas in those areas. Consult your veterinarian, entomologist, or retailer for program recommendations.

  • What is VetGuard® for Cats and how does it work?

VetGuard® for Cats kills adult fleas & ticks.

VetGuard® for Cats contains the active ingredient Fipronil, a powerful and fast-acting insecticide that spreads across the pet’s skin and hair, killing parasites that come in contact.

Apply the entire contents of the applicator in a single spot directly onto the cat’s skin. Avoid applying on top of the hair coat. Do not touch treated area until dry.

  • How can only a few drops of VetGuard® for Cats protect my cat from fleas? Shouldn’t it be applied over my cat’s entire body?

VetGuard® for Cats has ingredients which are carried through the oil in your cat’s coat and skin to kill fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. The application need only be applied as a single spot to the skin between the shoulder blades VetGuard® for Cats is absorbed and distributed on the cat by the sebaceous glands (microscopic glands in the skin that secrete an oily/waxy matter called sebum to lubricate and waterproof the skin and fur).

  • Should I bathe my cat before applying VetGuard® for Cats?

Bathing with a shampoo or soap frequently (more often than once every couple of weeks) could reduce the effectiveness of any spot on product like VetGuard® for Cats. It would be better wait 24 hours after applying VetGuard® for Cats to bathe your cat, but if you must bathe your cat before application, wait 2448 hours to allow the oils to build up and the product to be absorbed.
